Meet Rhoda
truth-teller, encourager, breakthrough-builder.
From the projects to the boardroom—empowering others to rewrite their story, rise, and lead.
I’m Rhoda Banks: founder of The Rhoda Experience, author, speaker, and host of Breakthrough Conversations the Podcast. From the projects to the boardroom, my journey has been anything but ordinary. I’m a storyteller at heart, using words, voice, and lived experience to spark healing, growth, and action. My memoir Daughter of an Assassin pulls back the curtain on a powerful personal journey—one that proves your past doesn’t define your purpose. Whether I’m on stage, behind the mic, or connecting with readers, I create space for real talk, real breakthroughs, and the reminder that your voice matters. If you’re ready to rise, I’m right here with you.
Why I Wrote Daughter of an Assassin
I wrote this memoir to break a generational silence. As a little girl, I carried the weight of a legacy I didn’t choose—my father’s actions, his murder, my mother’s trauma, and the patterns that followed. Daughter of an Assassin is not just my story; it’s a reclamation. I wanted to show that healing is possible, even from the darkest places. That you can rise from the wreckage, rewrite your narrative, and choose a legacy worth remembering. I wrote it for the child in me who needed a voice—and for anyone who's ever felt defined by where they come from instead of where they’re going.
“I finished your book yesterday and was absolutely blown away. It was such an incredible moving story and so personal, but I found that I connected with so many of the feelings you shared. It was unbelievably moving. Anyone reading your book, regardless of their background, will find somewhere to connect with your story. More words are failing me but seriously, so very well done.”
My mission is to inspire others to rewrite their story and let their past inform—not define—their future
My Values
Real Talk: I speak the truth, even when it’s hard, because breakthrough begins with honesty.
Healing: I honor the past, but I don’t live there. Healing is the bridge to freedom.
Authenticity: I show up fully and unapologetically, creating space for others to do the same.
What Guides Me: On Stage, On Page, and in Life
I’m an author, speaker, and podcast host—but here’s the real tea:
I own more than 100 pairs of eyeglasses (yes, they’re prescription—I’ve been wearing them since I was 2!) and love matching them to my outfits and bold jewelry. Fashion is fun. Ask me about my eyeglass wall, it's a vibe.
I have a gift for writing rhyming poems and even won a workplace poetry contest.
I think I can sing (in my head, I’m Broadway-ready). If I could do life all over again, I’d chase the spotlight on stage. I adore theater and the arts.
I’m a low-key celebrity magnet. I’ve met Kevin Hart and Ice Cube at the same time, was personally invited by Magic Johnson to sit on stage during his keynote, and have crossed paths with Dr. J, Cedric the Entertainer, DL Hughley and more.
I’m still waiting for my game show moment. I made it through three rounds of Press Your Luck auditions... they haven’t called me—yet.
